Help - IRC Netiquette News

IRC Netiquette is not so much a set of rules, as a set of guidelines for pleasant and polite communication on irc.

  • Before sending a private message to someone, you should first request a private conversation in a public channel.
  • You should not flood anyone, this includes repeated nick changes.
  • Advertising is almost always considered bad.
  • Typing in ALL CAPS is considered shouting.
  • Always be polite and considerate.
  • Channels have their own rules, if in doubt ask.
  • Do not bring a bot into a channel without first gaining permission from a channel operator.
  • Clone's are almost universally unwelcome everywhere, however just because someone is coming from the same IP address does not necessarily mean they are a clone.
  • Use of colours on IRC should be avoided. They can be annoying, and not all IRC Clients support them.

Always remember, on IRC you have no right's, other than those given to you by the IRC Network and/or the channel you are chatting in, don't assume otherwise.
